Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned the collapse of the Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine as an act of "mass environmental destruction". He said the attack on such critical infrastructure would not alter Ukraine's plans to retake territory from occupying Russian forces.

Zelenskyy described the explosion that destroyed the dam as a deliberate and chaotic act by Russia. He said the dam was blown up in a bid to "use the flood as a weapon" to hamper Ukrainian forces.

The Kakhovka dam is a key piece of infrastructure in Ukraine. It provides water for irrigation and drinking water for millions of people. It also generates electricity for the country.

The collapse of the dam has caused widespread flooding in the area. Zelenskyy said the flooding has damaged homes and businesses and has displaced thousands of people.

He said the flooding is a "humanitarian catastrophe" and that Russia must be held accountable.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine's plans to retake territory from Russian forces will not be affected by the collapse of the dam. He said Ukraine will continue to fight for its freedom and sovereignty.
