Drone footage released on Saturday shows the full scale of the devastating train crash in India, which killed nearly 300 people on Friday night. The footage shows at least 10 carriages that have derailed and are scattered across the tracks. In one area, the carriages appear to be stacked on top of each other.

According to local media reports, two trains collided so hard that carriages were thrown into the air, twisting before smashing back to the ground. A third train then crashed into the derailed carriages. The impact of the collisions was so great that it caused the carriages to burst into flames.

Images broadcast on local television overnight showed long lines of bodies laid out under white sheets. Many of the victims were burned beyond recognition.

Indian Air Force helicopters were deployed to the scene on Saturday to help evacuate injured passengers, as the operation to rescue those trapped beneath carriages wrapped up.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but officials have said that it may have been caused by a signaling error. The crash is the deadliest in India in more than 20 years.
