Meta Platforms Inc has hired a team based in Oslo which was formerly responsible for developing artificial intelligence networking technology at British chip company Graphcore. The hiring is a part of Meta’s effort to improve its data centres in handling AI work, which includes demand for infrastructure from various teams within the company.

Facebook and Instagram owner Meta have become more dependent on AI technology in its bid to target advertising, select posts for feeds and eliminate banned content from its platforms. The social media giant is also rushing to keep up with competitors including Google and Microsoft in developing generative AI products that can create human-like writing, art and other content.

While Graphcore once faced setbacks after Microsoft scrapped an early deal to buy its chips, the British chipmaker says it is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the increasing commercial adoption of AI.
