In a new twist to the ongoing political feud, former Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken legal action against Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel by sending him a defamation notice. Khan is demanding a staggering Rs10 billion in damages for Patel's recent allegations regarding his mental stability and claims of finding traces of alcohol and an illegal drug in his urine.

The defamation notice, dispatched on Tuesday, characterizes Patel's statements as "wrongful, baseless, false, misleading, erroneous, malicious, and defamatory." It further asserts that Patel's remarks have caused substantial harm to Khan's reputation, tarnished his goodwill, and resulted in an assault on his honor.

In response to the alleged defamation, Khan's legal team has insisted that Patel retract his statements, issue a public apology to Khan, and pay the substantial sum of Rs10 billion in damages. Failure to comply with these demands within 15 days could result in Khan pursuing legal proceedings against Patel.

Patel's controversial claims regarding Khan's health were made during a press conference held last week. Alongside the allegations, Patel also revealed the results of Khan's medical examination, which purportedly indicated the absence of leg fractures and a mentally stable state.

Khan's legal representatives, however, have scrutinized the medical report, noting that it does not mention any evidence of alcohol or drug use. They argue that the report's assessment of Khan's mental state is inconsistent and lacking logical coherence.

The defamation notice marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political battle between Khan and the ruling government. Khan was removed from his position as prime minister in April after a vote by the National Assembly. Since then, he has been at the forefront of anti-government protests, consistently accusing the administration of corruption and mismanagement.

The government, on its part, has vehemently denied these allegations, counteraccusing Khan of attempting to destabilize the country through his actions. The conflict between the two sides has unfolded in a series of verbal clashes, each accusing the other of falsehoods and propagating misinformation.

The initiation of the defamation lawsuit underscores the mounting intensity of the political strife between Khan and the government. The response of Abdul Qadir Patel to the notice remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the dispute is far from resolution, and it is likely to continue fueling political tensions in the days to come.
